Sometimes you’re going about your day, doing whatever the hell it is that you all do out there, and you see something to just puts things into perspective. I was driving around a week ago, running some errands on the South side of Knoxville. I was driving down 275 when I saw a guy with a pickup truck pulled over on the shoulder. The guy: probably my age, mid 40s, looked like he was on his way to work probably, it was morning. I was headed to UTMC for some kind of testing, I think. The truck: late 90s Dodge pick up, beat up but in an “every day work use” way, not crashed. The truck is broken down, the hood is up, and my man is not happy. He is in the process of beating the truck with a baseball bat. Look, we’ve all been there. If you haven’t been there, then you don’t do anything for yourself, you have someone do all your shit for you. Gods know I’ve been there, I’ve punch walls, broken tools that weren’t already broken, thrown things across the garage. It’s not something I do often but sometimes we have moments of weakness, sometimes things just get to be too much to handle calmly, sometimes we lose control a little. But that’s okay (Stuart Smalley) we move on and do better. Seeing that guy wailing on his truck with a bat out of sheer frustration made me remember that when things are bad, they can always be worse. Some of us out here are willing to help and if you don’t want or need help, that’s OK too. We all just have to do what we can to get thru every day and that’s all there is. I hope this perspective helps and if it didn’t i hope you at least laughed. I love you all.
